4l60e tranny ???

4l60e tranny ??? Empty 4l60e tranny ???

my uncle has a 98 chevy pickup with the 4l60e in it. it has been slipping for a while and finally gave up today,if he lets it cool,it will drive fine for about 5 -10 mins or so,i can get him a rebuild for about 1100$.or he can have his fixed,truck has 250,000kms.pulled a trailer a bit before he got it.
1100$doesnt seem like too bad a price does it.or would it be cheaper to put a new set of clutch packs in his.
i dont know much about these trannys.any info would help.thanks guys.kyle

Time to rebuild ! Is that the price for the trans and converter? Also is this with labor for installation? If this is with labor for installation then yes this is a good price. Good luck

is this a reputable place with warranty?
IDK much about that little chevy junk but if you had to pay for the swap, and factor in the convertor, thats an expensive enough trans.

Kyle the problem with the Chevy Trans is when you hook the pickup up to a load you can never drive it in overdrive period. it will burn out the clutches....

I would do some checking on the shop you have near and see who else has used them and if they are happy... before I used them.

the torque was included in the price and it was delivered. napa wanted 1399 plus taxes and another distributor an hour away wanted 1600 plus taxes.
a used one runs about 800 at the scrap yards and an hour drive to pick it up.put the tranny in and it is working.cross fingers.

i dont think these tannys are much good for anything but lady driving randy.i see them sitting around here everywhere with low gear gone,overdrive gone or reverse out. the guy i got the tranny from does sell alot of them around here and a couple guys have had some minor problems with this same tranny.but he puts a year warranty on it. but he got no bill of sale or anything. although two friends who have bought from this guy pulled thier tranny back out and he picked it back up and fixed it free of charge.
the guy built my c-6 for me and it worked really good but only for a short period.it is back with him now so we will see.i had put a cheaper torque in it rom b&m. so i sent the torque to montreal to have it looked at.looks like the torque was heating up and burnt the clutches up. but i should know in another week or so exactly what happened.

I just built the same trans in a 2000 s-10 with the 4 banger in it . Gm has had a lot of problems with this trans from the very first 700R4 to the 4L60 , 4L65, And 4L70. The s-10 was burned up so bad that the wiring in side the trans was melted. These transmissins run hotter than any other trans. I pretty much make a living on building these transmissions. Goverment Motor Junk! Enough Said affraid
