B&J transmissions

The "Big Boy" is a lenco type tranny right?

It wouldn't be considered an automatic.

I know I read David talking about these.

I would guess it depends on what the rules say. Some rules say that the cars must have a torque converter. That means you can slip by with a Bruno drive or Lenco Drive.

Wher I race it says no clutchless, bruno, or lenco type. I am assuming that these would fit in that category.

Yep. The B&J is the same thing as a Lenco. Their converter drive is the same thing as the Bruno.

The "Jeffco" trans is a much closer copy to a Lenco than the B&J is. But even though it's not an exact copy of the Lenco, the B&J it is similar. All three are a planetary style gear trans with clutches & steels like an automatic trans. But their clutches are applied through mechanical means vs an auto trans being applied through hydraulic line pressure.

I have heard that some racing circuits that originally said "automatic only" have changed the rules to say "converter only" to appease the guys that wanted to use the aftermarket gear & planetary gear race trans stuff.
