I would take something BIGGER than that pissy 45 auto, Man you need a 44 Mag or a 45 Long colt...that 45 will just Piss off a Gator... and I hope if you shoot a Boar with that 45 you can Run like hell.... cuz I know he can and will...... and Nothing worse than a Pissed Off Boar with Killin on his mind...... Shocked

But on another Note Boar is Oh so Yummy Way Different than domestic pig.....

I agree a 45 auto is a little lite, I would suggest atleast 45 colt but I haven't been able to find a whole lot of ammo here lately.

I wouldn't be so much worried about the gators as I would the Bore. Once they start charging, your going to want something to put them down fast. Just depends on how good of a shot you are under pressure! Laughing My cousin went bore hunting with a spear he made himself and three dogs. The spear was a very effective way to stop the bore. (As he drove the spear through the bore as it was charging him!)

I hear that the same people my cousin used down in La. have actually had people hunt bore with a big knife. He said the hunting wasn't the scarriest part. It was the driving into the middle of no where in La. swamp meeting a guy with a large revolver on his belt and three dogs. Then getting in this small flat bottom boat heading off into the swamp. The tour guide caught it all on VHS but this has been more than a decade ago.

I think it would be fun, he just made his spear out of a shovel. Another one of my cousins has a forge, they just heated and forged the shovel blade into a spear and sharpened it.

I'm Back

Post  511Fox on May 2nd 2010, 1:37 pm

I left Thursday before last.

18 hours later we reached base camp my Uncle's 125 acre ranch and slept about 3 1/2 hours.

Went fishing at the ranch caught some 2 good size Tilapa & 2 Channel Cat these fish( + others caught by Dad & my Boss)fed us one evening.

Hunted Friday evening and found Nada. ( Saturday hunted morning & Sunday off)

Monday evening I shot my 1st Sow she weighed about 110 lbs I got her with a 30'06 at about 75-125 yards we went about a 1/4 of a mile into a Palmeto & Hardwood swamp after her. She dressed out to around 30-40 lbs of meat.

Hunted Tuesday morning Dad & I got nothing but we did well Monday ( 1 sow for me, 2 for my buddy/Boss, 1 Boar for Dad), Saturday my buddy/Boss shot a 7 1/4 foot female 'Gator with a .22 Hornet through the left eye.

I found that my deer rifle a Remington Mohawk 600 .243 Win has a #@^&* scope and caused me to miss a 2-3 1/2 'Gator as well as 2 sows.

Overall this was a great trip & all meat collected will feed the Realtors,Office Staff, & families at the Summer Office Cookout.

I will have pictures coming I hope soon.

Next year I will pack my .243 in a hard case.

I plan to use a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 with a slug barrel at least 1 day of the hunt.

I just traded a S&W Sigma with (3) 15 round mags for a EAA Windicator snub nosed .357 Mag revolver.

I want to carry this weak side in a shoulder harness + my .45 Glock in a hip holster strong side.

$$$$

Post  511Fox on May 3rd 2010, 1:17 pm

Where we hunt 'Gator they charge $100 a foot + $52 for the State of Florida + meat process fee.

A 9 1/2 foot 'Gator could cost ($100X9.5)+$52+$40 for a total of $1042 without Taxidermy fees. Suspect
