97 460 F250 Empty 97 460 F250

Post  plowboy34 May 10th 2010, 7:55 pm

Gotta chance to get one, haven't seen it yet. I was just wondering if the 460 ever had mass air or not. I am not real smart on the electronic part of engines so if mass air ever was on a 460 it will have a air meter in the air tube correct?? Again I am not real FI smart so you can talk to me like I am an idiot if u want to cause I am in that area.

I just bought a 93 with a EFI 460. Through my searching, it seems only some California models had mass air, and I'm not 100% on that.

I am doing some mods to mine soon and would like to know if there is a tuner availble for the speed density system on our trucks. Also if drop beams are the only way to lower the front end. I don't see or can't fine anything about drop spindles.

Sorry not much help. Rolling Eyes

Never heard of a M/A system on the FI 460's either, but I haven't seen everything. I think Superchips makes a tuner for these engines. Don't have any experience with them on gas engines, but really like the diesel tuners they make.

I heard a rumor that all '96 EFI 460 engines had MAF. Something to do with OBD-II,so maybe you could check into it. But yes,if it does have mass air,it will be in line of the air inlet tube and have a plug-in to it.---RED

I have a 97 F250 heavy duty 460. MY truck does not have OBDII, so NJ state can't check this truck with the plug in alone. There is none! I always tell them that Ford wasn't going to reinvent the wheel with OBDII w the 460 with one model year. It's stilll EEC-IV, with the 460 for 1997.

Rock Auto has a listing for a Mass Air Meter for a 97 F250. Not sure if they know what they are talking about......

How difficult would it be to adapt a 5.0 mass air efi system on? I know it wouldn't pass the visual emission stuff, but might make a sweet running truck!!

What is the desire to change to mass air in the first place. Speed density is just fine in stock tune. Now if some mods are planed then that is a different thing all together. But really, how many mods can you do with the limited selection of parts made for these vehicles anyways.
