Post  strokedmyford May 20th 2010, 7:35 pm

has anybody had any bad experiences using an oil filter adapter. I hate like heck to use one but on my new build the steering shaft in the way of the filter. The one I was going to use is the ford M-6880-A50. pics are on the other site http://www.460ford.com/forum/showthread.php?t=145853

most of these fprds with big headers you have to use a 90* adapter... no problems on mine so far I have been running it for 12 years....

I was wondering if anyone experienced any oil psi drop. I just worry about changing something when everything has lived so well the last 5 years. Thanks

I came real close to using that adapter, but just cut the crossmember instead. Lem suggested it, and he wouldn't suggest something that would be a problem in any way. Cool

I would consider the one from L&L products before the factory ford one. When I swapped into my 86 F150 the ford one still didn't clear because it is too deep. L&L has a real short adapter and you have to run a remote oil filter mount. I guess really it depends on your situation.

I have been using 90* adaptors for like I said 12+ years and Never had one single problem yet. I have one on my new engine and works great.....had one on my small block Boss car sense 75, so if it was going to give any troubles it should have by now.....

If we can't stop these monsoon rains, I might be able to come run Central City too. Cool

Randy, did you use the factory ones or aft market?
i know with the factory ones if paid attention to (not that many Embarassed ) they always seem to have a film of oil around them. They were all the ones with the factory oil cooler lines so they could have been the culprit. Or i guess leaks from above.

I have used 3 different factory ones now I use to use the 90* adaptor it came on 6 cyl engines, then I used one that came on the Boss and SCJ engines which had an oil cooling setup for an external cooler and now I use the new style which I got from Lem ...
