1050 Holley 3 circuit model 8896. No power valves, 86 primary jets, 88 secondary, Idle air bleeds frt. and rear #53, Int. Air bleeds frt. .082", Rear .070" , Main air bleeds #40 frt and rear. Idle air mixture screws 1 1/8 turns out. Last weekend a Windy Hollow 60 ft times ranged 1.41-1.44 in 13 passes. This weekend 60 fts were 1.48-1.52. Barometric pressure was around 29 inches last weekend and only 28.5 this weekend. Air temp this weekend was about 20 degrees warmer. Humidity was 27% compared to 50-60% last weekend. (Not sure how accurate my gages are but it is a reference). Car felt real lazy out of the hole. How can I get it to 60 ft. in poor air. IMO it seems rich down low. What can I change to improve throttle response in bad air. I footbrake to around 2500 RPM then floor it.

Do you have any blank or extra air bleeds?? I would try leaning out the intermediate air bleeds if the car feels lazy and fat. You can do so with a set of air bleeds that are extra and a number drill index. go up a little at a time until you find a sweet spot , or down if the car shows no improvment. On our 557 deal, we ran a pro-systems 1250. The car was crisp and clean at idle, drove decent, but once you went through the burnout and started to roll up to the lights the car became extremely fat on the leave, loaded up to say. We called Patrick and he had us enlarge the intermediate bleeds sigificantly by .015 and the car was instantly managable and within a tunable window. Give it a try, you may be surprised. If your car is not extremely fat just a little on the lazy side don't take a big swing at it, maybe .003-.005 at a time. Try getting the rear square with the front by working upwards, that will be a good beginning.

Travis, Originally it had #63 air bleeds square. I made up the .082" and .070" dia. ones to try out. They made a huge difference and made the car much more drivable. I think Lem said not to go bigger than .085". That's a good point though maybe I should match the secondary bleeds and see what happens. I'll drill out my 63 bleeds because I know I won't be using those anymore. Thanks.

That 1050 might be happier if it were a 2 circuit deal.

Take fuel away in the low and mid sections. Also remember, advancing the ignition timing or retarding it will lean or richen the tune-up respectively, all other areas equal. I'm not acquainted with your specific carburetor, if power valve circuits are available, how about a power valve or two?

Dave.

It originally had power valves in it. It was way fat with those.

Another question. It has a 1/2" 4 hole carb spacer on it now on top of the Victor intake. I have a 1" open I've been wanting to try. What effect will the open spacer have on throttle response and will it tend to lean or richen the mixture?

1st thing: Set the carb up square like it should be . Same jets and air bleeds at all four corners. Those .070" inter. bleeds in the secondary have got to go...i.m.o.

Put a 1" Jomar power cone or hvh s.sucker spacer on it.

Lem, What kind of increase have you seen with the Jomar deal on similar combinations?

x2.. I'm no carb expert in this realm, but I know enough to question an out-of-square deal...

Maybe there'd be a difference in a street setup w/one or more powervalves, but a dommie on a big motor power deal - no
