35 spline upgrade question
ok after alot of thought im thinking of just upgrading to a 35 spline set up in my 1970 cyclone. my friend said that 35 spline axles with mosers sealed bearings mite not fit in my stock 9 inch housing because they are bigger diameter then 31 ,and if im spending the money on all new i should just get a complete rear end.my car is a factory 31 spline so i dont see how going to 35 spline would not fit???
i think it will fit but after he said that i just want to make sure. thanks

Re: 35 spline upgrade question
35 spline will require the use of a 3.250 case. Your case is probably 3.062.

35 spline
You can get a spool for 35 spline axle and use the 3.06 rear end. I don't now if you can get a open diff or posi though. You might want to check into this. Hope this helps. Aaron

As far as the axles fitting the housings goes. If you remove the original oil seal you should be fine with the 35 splines in the stock housing.

35's will fit the stock housing, the housing being the part the axle & bearing slide into.the 3'rd member, chunck, pumpkin, whatever should be upgraded to a 3.250 case or your pissen in the wind.i dont know if you can get a smaller bore/spline spool that'll work with 35's but the stock case is the weak link.

Re: 35 spline upgrade question
If your talking about the factory 9" housing ends, both of the big Ford housing end styles (for the big 3.150" OD axle bearing) should work with a Moser 35 spline axle & a standard single row sealed bearing. But these days I'm not sure about the small Ford housing ends & 35 spline axles (for the small 2.835" OD axle bearing). I could swear many years ago Moser made/had a speical axle bearing for using their 35 spline axles with the small housing ends, but that was years ago & I might be mistaken.

Yes Dave you are correct, I had a set. I am pretty sure they still offer that package although other companies don't.

I have Strange 35 spline axles, they require a 3.250 side bearing in the case but will work with the small Ford bearings on the housing.

Re: 35 spline upgrade question
havent been on here for a few days.. thanks for all the replies. im just gonna get a new case and go all new. it would be a shame to modify a factory SCJ 3rd member. so ill sell it and do the new route.. i was thinkin of a spool cause there are cheap but i want a locker.
