ok, so i have the MSD Pro Billet distributor for the 460.....

any tips for setting it up for street use.....do I need to hook up a vacuum line from the advance to the carb....

it came with other spring and some basic instructions, but i figure like all they are a generic instruction, so I figure the guy who have installed one on their motor will have ssome real time experience

Pvc is fine for a street motor, as far as distributor set up, figure how fast you want the timing to come in and follow the instructions to install the suggested advance springs....... Then set the timing to around 32 total to start, not initial, should be in the 10-14 initial range.....

dave,

can you clarify a few things for me

1. intitial timing is at idle......correct? should be 10-14
2. advanced timing is at what rpm.....the instructions dont give a number, is that at full throttle or part throttle?
3. total timing is the sum of initial and advanced? should start about 32 and work up/down from there depending on what?

keep in mind i am newbie at this carb/distributor stuff...i tried to read the manual a few times, but some of it is jibberish right now......

1. Yep

2. You need to look at the charts provided different bushings and springs have different totals in at different rpm

3. Yes, but the total won't change for a given set-up unless you advance or retard the actual distributor. Generaly you should be all in somewhere around 2000-3000 rpm but that depends on what your set up wants

so not to keep bugging you....

the centrifugal advance which you set with the springs and stuff....does that work in conjuction with the vacuum advance, or do i lock one of them out....

All of this is done without the vaccum advance

Put in the black 18-degree centrifugal bushing, and 2 blue (light) springs. Set your initial to 14-degrees. That will give you 32 degrees total.

After doing the above, get a vacuum gauge and tell us what your idle and cruising down the freeway at 70 mph in high gear readings are. Hook the gauge to the manifold. Do all the above with the vacuum canister on the distributor disconnected.

Hope that helps,

Dave
