Cooling system problem

Post  Tore on July 27th 2010, 8:08 pm

I am trying to help a friend. He has a 427 stroked Windsor and after the car gets warm the top radiator hose colapses after he shuts it off. We have replaced the cap, hose and thermostat. Anyone know why this would happen.

Thanks Tore

Coolant keeps flowing a little bit after the thermostat closes maybe? Thus pulling the coolant out of the hose but not replenishing it. Maybe...I don't know for sure though.

Air in the system. Does it have a recovery tank or just a puke hose?

Could be just a soft hose but I would be checking to see if the puke hose is plugged and or the cap is working properly. New or not the cap should allow air or water to get pulled back in to the system as it cools. What is the temp when he shuts it off? Leaving the fan/water pump on to cool between rounds?

I was leaving the line this weekend at 160* and it was somewhere around 1/2 mile back to where we were pitted and the temp was 200 or less (engine on gas)
