first cam degreed

Post  meandad on July 30th 2010, 2:13 pm

degreed my first cam yesterday.yea thats right,im one of those guys that just stuck em in Embarassed .cam was supposed to have 4*advance ground in,but with a straight up gear it was retarded 5*.so it took 4*more advance to get it to within one degree of correct.is this a common thing to be that far off? no wonder i've been disappointed with some cams in the past!

most often the timing set.a friend of mine bought a summit timing set years ago and it was off so bad i jumped a tooth on the cam gear and backed it up 2*to get it on the sweet spot.i just put a new motorsport ,from Lem cheers ,and it checked out within 1/2 a * with a comp cam. Very Happy

I had one cam that we had to jump a tooth to get it in time with using all good quality parts. I haven't had a cam yet that didn't need some advancing or retarting to get it in time. It sure is worth the time to check it.
