2.3 ranger turbo?

Ive got a 86 Ranger 4x4 with the 2.3. 5spd 3.73 gears. I am going to pull the motor here in the next couple of weeks to fix a couple of oil leak issues, and was wondering how hard it would be to turbo this thing. I am not looking for radical horsepower, just a little something extra. This truck never sees the road it is strictly a trail only truck. I wanted a Polaris RZR and the boss said nay nay, so I bought this truck to play with. I know it needs a better gear under it, but I hope to do a straight axle swap on the front end in the next few months so I hate to put the money into the current front end. I know i can swap in a turbo coupe motor, but would really just like to buy a used turbo and fab everything up myself. Any ideas, suggestions, tips. Thanks.

i did the 4x4 thing for a while, turbos do not seem to go well on the trail, with lag and hot temp..etc..i did see a few but not many, once you get it geared right even a 2.3 liter will climb anything and have the power to get you where your going

The 1985/1986 SVO Mustang was a turbo 2.3 , there should be parts out there. I've seen one of those SVO motors attached to a vw transaxle in a sand rail, that thing was scary fast!

Hey Bumper,I'm not far down the road from ya.I got a little 2300 turbo engine sitting on the engine stand in my Garage.Just been freshened up but needs some finishing touches.(Cam,lifters and turbo mounted) I re-routed the way the turbo and the plenum goes.Made it an easy shot for an aftermarket intercooler.Powdercoated the turbo housing,intake and valve cover too.Pretty nice little engine.If you are interested in checking it out,let me know.---RED
