Trans temp.

Post  Larry Williams on August 16th 2010, 10:50 am

this weekend was my first real race in 38 years so I have lots of questions today.
I am using a built powerglide with 4500 flash and a trans brake. I am worried about the temperature being at 250 degrees after a run then having to make another run 15 minutes later with a hot tranny. what problems will I encounter running with a hot tranny? Maybe I should stop running 2 classes, pro comp and a 9.90 index

Well I'd start with a real cooler and a fan. They do make some real nice ones with build in fans.

need to check the cooler flow as well, you can get into issues on the glide using the wrong input shaft-pump bushing combo.

That seems like a lot of heat to build on a pass, whaere is the temp probe?

I have my tranny cooler in the rear of the car with a dedicated fan and never see the fluid get that hot..................and I seldom ever run the fan.

That seems like a LOT of temp. Sounds like something bad may be going on inside trans to get that hot. It's more than a cooler issue.

Like what was said already, make sure your tranny even has a cooler circuit. Next install a good PLATE style cooler with a fan.

That much heat will kill the tranny.

i have a 10 inch sq transcooler rad that will be installed tomorrow. Still waiting on a return call from my tranny guy. The trans couldn't perform better so far.
