The casting numbers were not clear on the side of the block. But I would like to know how good the heads are along with the year of the block.

D3VE-A2A

The engine block numbers were hard to read. I had 2 of my sons read the numbers to me and this is what we came up with. We are not sure which set is correct.

BWEC635A2 LAST NUMBER COULD BE (9,OR 8

BWEO8(3OR8)5A (9,OR 8

BWEEC9(3,OR 8)5A (9, OR 8

D3 heads are decent and have large chambers. The block should be something like D1VE or D9TE??? Those are the most common ones with D3 heads

yes we tried everything we could think of. The problem is the numbers didn't cast very well. Here is a picture after we painted it black.

Is there any way to tell what year it is or does it matter?

Well the D1VE is internally balanced and the D9VE is external. Thats most of the difference. If its external the crank sleeve behind the balancer will have a weight on it kind of like a hatchet blade. It its smooth and round its internal. Your swapping this into the F150?
