As some may know, I have built a 410W for a friend of mine who runs at our local dirt track. He runs in the "ClayCutter" class, which is the top division. The cars are basically stock front clip, dirt late models, with the only engine rules being heads and block must be cast iron..Our simple, low-buck. flat tappet Windsor against 408, roller cammmed, Broix headed SBC's.
This is our first full years running in this class, after some engine failures last year, and we are the ONLY Ford in the class...

I just got the call from him..
He won his first heat race in class last night AND he WON the feature tonight !!!!! Our first feature win !!!!!
As an added bonus, This was "The State Championship" race, one race, winner is 2010 Ga State Champ..
This also helped us with the season track points.. We now are assured at least 3rd place for the year and MAYBE 2nd, depending on where others finished.

Good Job Shawn !!!!!! It's time to celebrate !!!!!!!!!

Congrats you should take the Windsor apart and show them what's inside the your low buck engine and really make the SBC look bad and tell them FORDS RULE. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Good deal Mike, it just goes to show that even a low buck engine can go out and compete. HP is just one small part of the equation too, and your buddy must have done one hell of a job driving that car to get the W. Congrats to both of you. Very Happy

Yes it does have the N heads. This set is stone stock..no porting or anything. I have a 2nd set that will get the works...hehehehe Cool

Yeah Schmitty, it was a steep learning curve. He has driven the car with a (UGGGGHHHH) GM 400hp crate motor.
It took at least 1/2 this season to get the car to handle. The setup is WAY different..Amazing what REAL power will do... Cool Cool

Way to go First On Race Day, i am a reformed roundy rounder Laughing , drag racin fer me now Very Happy , what body yall using ? how do you tell if ya have N heads???? i have a 84 f150 351W breather says 351 H O ??? please let me know i plan on doing a mild stroker with it for my 04 flare side when the 4.2 gives out Twisted Evil , any way BIG CONGRAT`S on the WIN cheers GO FORD GO Twisted Evil

The "N" heads are a FRPP deal, I got mine from Lem. Cool The body is typical Late Model, all just flat sheet metal, but it does have a Fusion nose piece.
The build isn't anything special...
4.040" x 4.00 for 408/410 , stock 1984 block
Probe flat tops give 11.5 CR
Probe I beam rods 6.250 C to C
Probe forged crank, sbc rod journals, 28 oz imbalance
Comp OTS flat tappet 250*/260* .586"/.611"
FRPP "N" heads, 2.02/1.60 valves. no porting, no milling..nothing... bumps, burrs and all.
Victor intake, 750 double pumper
old SVO distrib set at about 30* full in...
Like I said ..nothing special. This motor was built as a test to see what we needed to run with these boys. To say it worked better then expected is an understatement...
The best part is..... 3 years ago, when we started this project, the track owner told me..."You'll never get a Ford to run with these cars." I just told him..."Watch me." Cool

There is a large group of guys here that do the roundy round thing too, and they have that same misguided attitude also. Somewhere along the line, chebbie became the end all for racing performance. There was a guy that took the same challenge and took a Ford and started whipping everyones butt. Them chebbie boys were all sorts of mad about getting spanked by a Ford. They would start an inveted field most of the time with the previous weeks winners in the back. The guy with the Ford would be passing guy left and right anywhere on the track that he wanted and then be lapping them within 5-8 laps into the race. What a way to shut up the almighty chebbie is the best arguement. Twisted Evil

Proud of you Mikey! 'Ya did good. Now then, send me those N-351 heads and let me perform a "legal" valve job on them,,,,no porting however, but I will do some flow testing. I think I can give you some more horsepower. Very Happy
