Re: rod lenght
with that combo your piston deck pin c/l would be .925 awfully short piston minus pin Dia would set you at .43 top thickness from the pin dia I would not even go there... so I would say Heck NO
4.5 / 2.25
8.25 rod
10.30 block + 1.375 plates= 11.67
pin dia .990 / 2 = .495
2.25 half stroke + 8.25 rod =10.50 crank and rod length + .495 wrist pin = 10.995 to the top of the wrist pin.....11.67 - 10.995 which leaves you .680 from the top of the wrist pin to top of the deck.....lets say .250 thickness of small end of the rod....so that leaves you .430 left for piston thickness not including the clearance for the rod.....where are you going to put any valve notches?

Fixed the math for ya Coug. Still pretty slender stuff.

Re: rod lenght
what heads?
Something in the 8" range would work and give you a 1.250 pin height.

What are you hoping to gain? Honestly a 4.5 stroke and deck plate is kinda a waste of time IMO, if your going to spend the time putting deck plates on put an arm in it....... the 4.500 / 6.800 / 10.300 combo works fine.

it was a conversation from another forum i'm not doing this. the debate was if a 8 1/4'' rod would fit in a 10.300 block with 1 3/8'' deck plates. my math says no but just wanted to get some of your oppinions...eric
