**** Required Roll Bar Padding ****
Fellow Racers,
As of June 1, 2011 the NHRA requires SFI 45.1 roll-cage padding on all cars
going 9.99 (6.39 in eigth) or quicker. The padding must be installed anywhere
a driver's helmet may come in contact with the roll-cage.
I have looked at various padding that's out there, gotton samples and found
what I believe is the best padding available...
it's so good, in fact, that
I have added this padding to my safety and performance product line called Spec Safety Products.... website under construction!
But I wanted to get a jump
on the padding since it is needed by June.
The padding offers the following:
1. Softer feel than other padding available and a radius lip on bottom of surface...easy to cut and form into curves.
2. SFI 45.1 approved
3. Available with PSA tape or Velcro or you can use 3M 77 for a self install.
4. Standard colors: Red, Black, Blue. Custom colors available for additional charge.
5. Made in USA
The cost is $21.99 for a 3 ft piece, PLUS shipping. It comes in 2", 1.75", 1.5",
and 1".
I will post pics as soon as i get them from the mfr.
Feel free to contact me direct at (270) 926-8112 8:30 am to 5:00 pm CST
or pm or email me at rkuegel@ispky.com. If you get my voice mail, please leave a
message.
Thanks for looking!

Roll Bar Padding
I'l do that........
I believe that roll cages for door cars use 1.5" and 1.625" bars and open body
cars use 1.75" bars. The mfr has "low profile" SFI padding that will work
perfectly!
I'm going to bring mostly black, and some red..... if anyone wants me to bring
more red or even some blue, post it on this thread and I'll be sure to bring it.
Thanks
Robbie

Roll Bar Padding
I have decided that the PSA tape would be the best install......
the 3M adhesive would not work too well because of the overspray, why use velcro
unless you are going to remove it often.... so the tape makes the most sense. A
good quality has to used...no silicone based adhesive. I'm talking to the mfr. to firm
up the best material to use. I'll keep ya'll posted.
Either way, I'll have the material available for install at the Bash.
Free install available for trade of Lone Star or Iron City (you TX and PA boys know
the drill!) Harold, you may just have to do coffee...but not at 4:30 in the AM

"Roll bar must be padded anywhere drivers helmet may contact it while in driving position. Adequate padding must have minimum 1/4-inch compression or meet S.F.I. Spec 45.1

Roll Bar Padding
I contacted the "tech guy" for our division (3) and asked specifically if there was
a "list" of SFI certified manufacturers. He stated that there was not a list, but if
the padding had SFI 45.1 stamped on it, it was legal.
The sister company to this manufacturer has been making polyurethane
products since 1981 and the manufacturer has made over 250,000 pads in the past 15 years, so they have been around the block a few times. Also, in speaking with the manufacturer, the actual owner not the janitor, he expressed his relationship with SFI and other safety equipment manufacturers.
Therefore, after my investigation(s) I feel very confident in the certification as well
as the quality of the product. As stated before, I've seen and touched other padding
and this padding is much better.

Measuring for roll bar padding
It's quite obvious to say that each roll bar install can be different, but the rule states that any place that the driver's helmet may come in contact with the roll
bar must have SFI 45.1 padding. (check out the NHRA rule book for exact wording, but that's the jist of it). With that said, two 3' sections will probably do most. On my cage, it looks like about 60" will do it, but I haven't strapped in yet to see exactly where my helmet may touch. Like alot of others I see posting on this website, I tend to go a little above and beyond and try not to skimp on safety.
