The biggest deal is the bolt pattern. If this GM trans has the standard chevy patten, an adapter plate will bolt the trans up. Next is a flexplate for the torque converter. You should be able to get one drilled for you. The last thing is the converter pilot. You will need the crank adapter or bushing to keep the TC centered. I build BBF-to-GM midplate adapters and could re-drill the flexplate if the holes will miss....UNLESS it needs to be SFI cert. Then you may need to call JW or somebody like that to get a new flexplate drilled to your pattern.

Are they the same bellhousing as a th400? JW makes an ultra bell for BBF to TH 350 and TH 400.

cutting the bell housing off is just too darn easy. I would rather do that than mess with all that adapter stuff

Another vote for the Ultra-bell...I have ran both, and cutting off the bell is the way to go. There really is nothing wrong with the adapter plate, the bell is just easier to deal with, especially if you are limited on room between the back of the block and the firewall. The studs sticking out off the adapter plate mean you need to have the tranny moved back an extra 2-3 inches before you can slide it forward.
Cutting off the bell is pretty straight-forward....cut it off even with the pump, bolt on the new one, and go. Another plus is the fact that you get built-in safety with the bell...no need for any external protection.

why not a 4r100 or whatever ford called the electronicly controlled overdrive auto they put behind 460s in the 90's trucks?

or phone jw. if the ultrabell works on a th400 itll probably work on a 4l80e (the trans is an evolution of the 400) the jw tech department will be happy to talk to you.

just call ati or someone. I think you can get a blank bell to drill your own holes. but if not the adaptor plates are fine. we ran an adaptor plate on a 1000hp ride for lots of years.

What are you going to use to control it?
