I can't say about casting numbers, but the premier block has billet steel main caps, and the ultra has cast iron caps. If you can see the engine, telling the caps apart shouldn't be too hard. I hope that was helpful.

eliminator block Empty Premier vs. Ultra

Post  IDTJay August 8th 2011, 8:30 am

The block in the picture is an Ultra block. The caps are cast nodular iron (Premier has billet steel) with the standard main bolts (not A1 studs / bolts) at all locations. The block castings are the same between the Premier and Ultra before they are machined. The Ultra block was designed to be a lower cost block (cast caps vs. billet caps). The cast caps used in the Ultra block are the same as the Sportman block.
