Horsepower Estimate Empty Horsepower Estimate

Post  oktw88 September 14th 2011, 1:53 pm

Probably a newb question, but Ive been collecting stuff and getting my motor ready to go and Im wondering what type of numbers it should be capable of producing with or without the turbos. Motor is a 523 CI factory block with 4 bolt splaid main caps/race prepped block/Oiling mods, forged crank and rods, forged 9:1 diamond pistons, Out of the box super cobra jet heads, twin S366 Turbos, Victor Intake converted for fuel injection with 160LB injectors and 105mm throttle body. Have not picked a cam yet but the motor is setup for solid roller. I know this setup will probably be pusing the factory block, but most of the motor parts are from a previous motor that I had reworked.

Thanks

when talking turbos the rest of the details of the motor do not really matter as much when guessing power as other combos. all that really matters is turbo size. those turbos are tiny especially on the exhaust side. you will need the largest AR housing that you can find which is still too small for max effort. I would say that it would easily make 1200-1300hp but take away 200 cubic inches and it would make 200-300 hp more.

Why would it make more power with fewer inches? scratch

I believe Whatbumper was saying those turbos will be such a restriction on the exhaust side that they'll likely limit the RPM of the engine. Whereas a smaller motor will get more RPM and, thus, horsepower due to easier top end breathing.

Compare it to a big engine with small exhaust ports --> choke point sooner than a larger port.

Have a good day!
