Re: Mike Stevens Build
Some back story to fill in for those not on FB...Sorry for the length ahead of time....
Car has been running good, with no major issues at all since the freshening.
3 years ago, it seemed to just fall off a little...MPH was down 3-4, but ET was still there...
Flash to end of 2019.....
I change to MT "Big Bubbas" , as I was tired of the occasional tire shake issues that would come out of nowhere
during a race.. Also , my trusty timing light died ( key point here) and I had to buy new....
New light arrives and I check my timing..... it's 8* too low !!!!! Going back thru my notes,
I see where I had checked it and it was too high, right about the time of the fall off...
Obviously an issue , over time with the old light...
As everyone knows, 2020 was a bust. Between being an "essential worker"( insert laughter here),
company cutbacks that lead to long hours, and everything being shutdown,I made 4 passes last year.....
2021...I retired end of Dec from the airplane factory to do more racing and enjoy life. Decided I'm going to go T/D racing here in D2..
Car is ready and we head to race at "The House of Hook", Carolina Dragway for 1st race of the year...
First time trial and it blows the tires off !!! WTF ??? BUT.. it's only 54* and track is still cold..
I came back, made only a slight adjustment and the car unloads the smoothest , fastest pass of it's life.
0.994 2.869 4.469/152.93 backed up with a 0.996 2.880 4.481 / 152.73 in the first round..
Even as the weather got warmer, it only fell off to low 4.50's @ 150.XX....
The motor is currently in Owensboro for freshening and upgrades. in preparation for next season.
My trusty 555" in is the framerails in the mean time....
That brings us up to date and as soon as I have new info, it will be here... Stay tuned because it's gonna be a BAD BITCH when it gets back !!!!

You're right it is...
Phillip did an amazing job building it...BUT....
It has only been freshened , not updated and things have changed in the 10 years its been around..
I have no doubts Flip and JayDawg will take it up a notch or2....or 3.....

I actually have 2...let me explain better..
The one that went bad (?) was a Flaming River battery operated one, that was OLD....
It died when I bounced it off the floor.
Bought a new Flaming River, since dragsters don't have easy access to power a regular light..
I also have regular Craftsman with the advance dial on the back .
After the old one died, I bought the new one and found the issue..
After a WTF ??? moment, I got the Craftsman and used it just to verify..
It confirmed what I had found...

Re: Mike Stevens Build
Well, "Big Henry" is back home after being updated at Oakley's.
Besides the basic freshening, the Updates include,
His new CNC program for "A" heads, including new valves
Shaft rockers w/ one piece stands
Eliminator Big V intake w/ APD 1700 billet carb
This is the first "update" since the motor was originally built.
It had been freshened before, but not updated...
It now has most of the "latest" tricks...
The end result exceeded expectations...
A word before the result...
Phillip changed dynos since the motor was original built.
Originally , it made 1123 hp @ 7000 and 931ft/lbs @ 5800
The new dyno is roughly 50hp "soft" from the old one
As you can see, Now it makes 1178.9 @7300 and 932 @ 5900-6000.
Adding the 50 for the new dyno.... 1228hp.
Not sure why pic turned sideways, it was upright on computer when it was uploaded...
Motor is in frame rails and about 75% hooked up, trying to test this weekend..
I ran out of gas from 22 hrs. up and back to Philpot with no sleep...
