would u run it?
1971 429 block, block fill to the bottom of waterpump ports, bored .140 over with 4.5 crower crank? would u run it on the street N/A and not beating the hell out of it all the time? It would have quite a bit compression with flat tops and 72cc heads.

Re: would u run it?
I haven't heard of too many 4.500 bore D1 blocks roaming the streets. Hopefully it was sonic checked.
Re: would u run it?
I would like to think whoever bored this did sonic check it but do not know. It was just done, the machinest hot tanked the block, installed new cam bearings and brass freeze plugs, did the block fill and bored it and assembled the short block for a friend of mine.Barney wrote:I haven't heard of too many 4.500 bore D1 blocks roaming the streets. It will probly run pretty warm, may be ok for limited street use. Only 1 way to find out.

Re: would u run it?
It could last a long time, might crack a bore on start-up..... never know. The Block Fill is definetly going to help it.
Do you have it sonic tested?

Re: would u run it?
USE an oil cooler ... the cooling capacity of just the water has been compromised a bunch.
Re: would u run it?
no sonic test that I know of but I just found a guy about an hour from me that can sonic test it but he said he would not run it. Maybe he can just start it up on ocassion just so he can here it run. Just feel bad for him as he paid $620 for all the work to the block.dfree383 wrote:It could last a long time, might crack a bore on start-up..... never know. I can tell you I've seen some Buick stuff run alot thiner than Ford guys would consider good. I was at Mikes shop a few weeks back and he was sonicing a unbored buick..... and let me tell you it was pretty thin...... before the boring.

Re: would u run it?
I'd run it. I'd make sure always had good gas in it and not detonate it, have a good cooling system, and a good oil cooler because of the block being filled. I'd make sure to have a good oil pan with at least 7-8 quart capacity. If a wall is paper thin it will crack, put a sleeve in it and move on. A sonic check would help to verify that one. Otherwise I'd run it, is not the first production block to be bored to 4.500". Would not recommend it, but has been done.

I will get it sonic tested just so we know how thin it is and will post results. I have to call and make an appointment with the guy.

Re: would u run it?
u all might laugh at this but i thought what the hell Why not try it. I have a disc brake caliper micrometer for measureing rotors, if u know what that is, and I was able to get them down into the waterpassage along the top of the block and get down in there to take a measurement. All of the cylinders have between .170 and .200 thickness except the front side of #5 which was at .120. Now I could only read the front and rear edge of each cylinder as well as the bottom of each end cylinder. So what ya think.

Re: would u run it?
