I am not a expert. But I was going through my MSC catalog getting a list of welding supplies together so I took a look at the offerings they have.

If it was me I would go with a digital gauge.

I think it would depend on your budget honestly. I have used Starrett, Fowler Sunnen Mit etc and they all work. The nicest dial bore gauge I have ever used was by far the Sunnen. If you can justify and afford one I don't think you can buy better.

I have had a mitutoyo for years, it has help up well and reads in .0001 increments. It's always been repeatable.

It's a 2- 6 inch. I have a Fowler that I bought some years back that I use on small bores 1/2 inch to 2 inch. It seems to do fine .

I just don't use it as much as I do the toyo.

The Mitutoyo part number is 511-166 06452007 is MSC's part number.

Hope that helps

Peacock is a good budget gage. You set it with a ring gage, mics, or gage blocks anyway, so you really don't gain anything by paying big bucks for the best. That's what I have, although I prefer to use ID mics. Also, go to MSC's website and look over to the right hand side at their promotions. About once a month they have 35-40% off, so wait and buy whatever you chose then.

budget right now does not matter.affraid right now i wanna see who is using what and how they like it. i want to buy it once and buy it right. What was the part number of the sunnen you used. the one i saw was $1,157. but that one was 2 feet long. i`m sure i could reach all the mains on a 460 with a shorter one. Very Happy
