want to build a 557 ?

If I do this I
want a pump gas engine what's the Max. Compression a can go with 93.
will have alum heads not sure which ones yet.I want a maintenance free Eng. Not sure on can yet thinking hydraulic roller. Goal is to run 10.00 index with all motor in a 86 mustang LX tubed.9inrear with 4.30's with 31x13 slicks
is this possible? Thanks

The $10k budget will be stretched pretty hard depending on how much you already have. By the time you do proper block machining, and buy the stroker kit, there will be about half that in the shortblock with all supplementals. A flat tappet cam will save you about $500 or so. The top end with aluminum heads if you have them ported, intake, carb, and all of the extras will use up the rest of that budget pretty quick. I did a 552 a few years back, with used iron heads, and several other used items and I was pretty close to that budget.

10.5: is a safe number for typical pump gas build, but sometimes you can go higher depending on the combo and how you build it.

PS no motor is maintence free.......

if you already have the 408 use it....... Your not going to build something new for less than what you already have !!!

If your starting from scratch its a different story.

So far I've got 50$ in cast stroker crank(used buddy deal) 300 in scat rods, 550 in probe pistons, 150 in machining, 300 balancing rotating assembly and turning crank, 1600 alum scj heads, 115 in solidroller lifters(used) 300 in coated and ported Vic 460 intake, I plan on having around 4500 maybe in my long block.
