I was checking the crank thrust today on my a-460 block and eagle crank today and noticed the crank rubs the main saddle and cap on #4 main front of block side What the hell.has any one else seen this? whats the fix, mill the cap? grind the block? defective? normal?

Had the same problem with a Scat 4.5 crank in an A460 block. Had to do a bit of grinding on the block.

early Scat cranks had a wider space between the counter weights for # 2 and 4 mains , fit OK. late Sact crank is different , narrower in that area .
caps won't be even with the block , have a overhang either to front or rear . lucky if you get a block with no overhang

The Crank, I have not had issues with my Bryant or my Scat ones.

I don't think it should be look at that way. Simply put, this is an accepted part of custom engine building. You are not building a "plug-and-play" engine, you are setting up the fine details of the combniation as it best suits your speicific build.

no why? just laid the crank in the block and spun it to see what all needed to be ground on

Any material you remove from the crank will affect the balance situation. If it had already been done then you have to check it again after removing material.
