Ole reliable is finally beginning to act a little strange. Last week one morning (outside temp around 40*) my truck started ok but,as I was starting up the highway,it started losing power(not missing)like the fuel filter was plugging. I pulled over and finally got it to rev up above 2500rpm. Limped it back to my shop and pulled the fuel filter.(it only had 5k mi.on it). Installed new one and it was fine the rest of the day. This morning I drove it to work and all was fine until this evening it did the same thing. I was in town and was lucky to make it off the street. I finally got it to rev up again and it ran fine the rest of the way back home. Could it be the wiring harness under the valve covers going bad? (still not missing) confused
only has 172k mi.

Never noticed it actually missing, just not wanting to rev and smoked when trying to accelerate.
seemed it got better as the engine warmed up.
Is there a FUEL heater somewhere near the fuel filter area on this year/model?

When I changed the filter it looked clean and no sign of water but, that doesn't always mean anything. No gas in it.

It has a butterfly valve in the turbine outlet to the exhaust, I wonder if the butterfly is sticking shut, they wont rev or smoke with it stuck shut.

Possible restricted sock in tanks or tanks or fuel pump getting weak under the intake....fuel pressure gauge will be your friend......does the engine sound like its "cackling" before it dies?

that year does not use an in tank sock, a fp test will be your next step if the oil level is full.

I have seen the switching valves become an issue.

Mine started acting very similar last week, (gas engine though). Coming home on the highway it felt like I was fighting a brick wall the whole trip, bucked hard if it got over 3k but revved fine when parked. Hope you figure it out, and I hope I can figure mine out too Mad

Haven't had chance to do any testing yet. This morning I will check oil first.Only 5k on the change and it usually doesn't burn any ,but we'll see. Then check the flap in the turbine outlet to see if it is working correctly. Then just go from there. Thx for all the help guy's
