340cc or 360cc A460 head? Empty 340cc or 360cc A460 head?

Post  Rich Osmond May 4th 2013, 8:53 am

All - I am seeking input on the best A460 cylinder head choice for a NA 547 engine (the A460 head is the best head allowed by rule...). The engine is a 4.500" bore (Will go larger later as I can go up to a 588) and a 4.300" stoke. Pistons give me 14.2:1 with an 87cc chamber and Lem has already provided a camshaft for the engine. The question is which A460 head am I better off starting with (will have either ported to maximize power)? Note - I won't be using nitrous or other power adder and the engine will be in a 3200# car with a Powerglide and 10.5" tire.

You already have a custom cam but don't have cylinder heads?

I have a good set of ported 340cc heads which Lem used as a basis for the cam, but interested to know if there is any gain to be had with my combination and the larger heads.

I have to run a cast intake.

Working on gathering the additional info now. I have flow numbers but confidence in them is not high. I will get back to you on flow numbers and port volume.

Lem - I will call you when I have the data. Thanks!

Max HP build.
