I have an aheaded 580 14:1 engine.
You guys who have big motors, how do you go about cranking it when its cold, after its warmed up and after its good and hot?
Im sure ive been letting mine idle to much with it being 14:, 839 lift and 1250 carb.
What rpm ranges do you use/
Thanks

my 552 wont idle below 1000rpm I got it set about 1200rpm I flood it a little to start it cold I get the engine turning over then hit the ing switch, when it hot I just get it to turning over and hit the ing switch and it fires right up.

Cold I give 2 shots and turn over for about a second, 2 more shots and turn over for about a second. If it don't fire then, on the 3rd time of 2 shots and turning over it does (No throttle while turning over). Warm I hold half throttle, turn over and it busts off. Idles around 1200 warm.

Mine starts great w/just about 3 shots of throttle after I replaced the crank trigger deal w/reg. soft spring dizzy. My SV-1 will idle down to between 800/900 rpm,but I like 1000.After it's warm I just hold the throttle about 1/2 down and its running.

Mine isn't that much compression but cold one full pump and crank. If it doesn't fire I give it another half pump and it will fire. Warm, just hit the key. No peddle. Idles 1100 hot in neutral.

My plugs are crazy bad and wouldnt let me idle nor run right. I got some new # 8's.
Usually i turn the pump and ign on, 1/4 pump, spin with another 1/4 pump and yayall.
I gotta quit letting it idle so much.
Thanks

I usually just warm it one time and keep the block heaters plugged in...... then its start it and do a burnout, make the pass, clickit at the stripe....... drag it back and repeat as needed.
