Wheelie bars Empty Wheelie bars

Post  HorsinAround January 24th 2014, 11:45 am

Thinking about building my own wheelie bars to save some cash. I've been looking around and I can get the wheels and bracket for the wheels no problem. For the bars, I've seen both flat and tube lowers, is one design better than the other?

Are they going to be for using or to look at?

Well, with this build, I expect they'll see plenty of use... Twisted Evil

The older style wheelie bars that had the lower "bars" made of long-flat aluminum strips were usually used along with a spring loaded upper bar made of tubing. And their length was usually somewhere around the 40" to 50" range. You could special order them longer, but the longer they were the more it seemed they tried to flex & twist around too much on some cars. You could also get them with a solid upper bar instead of a spring loaded upper bar. Some cars worked better with the spring, and some were better without it.

If you want a wheelie bar longer than 50" then going with a set made of all round tubing (vs the flat aluminum strip lower bars) is usually the way to go. And while 'moly tubing is usually the choice of material for the bars (most of the time anyway), I have also in the past made them out of mild steel tubing too a few times with no problems (other than them being heavier than a 'moly set).
