I just bought an Autometer 4357, which is a short sweep electrical gauge. It's simpler to install than the mechanical ones. I think that it should be all thats needed for monitoring trans temp. I installed the Autometer 2286 "temperature manifold" in the trans cooler line coming out of the trans on the way to the cooler, all I have to do is thread the sender into it and route a wire to the gauge.

I have an Autometer electrical guage as well. I drilled and tapped my deep aluminum pan for the sending unit.

i have the deep pan also is their a place that you shouldnt put the sending unit?i was thinking of putting the sender in the rear of the pan.you dont have to use a bung?the 1/8th npt tap is all thats required?

No bung. Just npt. Mine has a brass bushing that's 3/8 npt with a 1/8 npt hole in the center for the sending unit. Mine is at the rear of the pan just below the transbrake solenoid. It's a powerglide

you can put the sending unit in the pressure port on the side of the trans. no drilling, no fuss.
