Door locks acts goofy Empty Door locks acts goofy

Post  bcr466 January 5th 2015, 4:52 pm

99 F250, power locks usually work like new with the key fob thing and the keys. Sometimes when the unlock button is pressed on fob nothing unlocks, no sound nothing! I have two fobs and same with both. But door wont unlock with key either, its like it is wrong key just wont turn cylinder. Keep shaking and twisting key and it unlocks after seems like 5 min. Then, after it unlocks, the fob works perfect, key turns fine, all is normal untill the next time it does it! Never seen or heard of this before. Any suggestions??

You try hosing it down with some lubricant? Maybe the key linkage is crudded up. If it was an electrical problem I see no reason the key shouldn't work. I think you have a mechanical problem and the solenoids simply don't have enough power to overcome it. Especially if they are old.

Jason that was my thoughts also. But there is no click, no sound, and the dome light does not come on. Plus why would both doors do the exact same thing at the exact same time? And when one door is finally unlocked with key, the other door works fine too! Once one door is unlocked, they both work fine with key or clicker.

And like your thoughts, why will neither door not unlock with key untill one is unlocked with key then the other unlocks fine with key? No binding, no resistance other than normal.

Mine does it sometimes too, it has the keypad keyless entry, and as I recall there is a lockout if the wrong code is entered 5-times, and it locks out for 5-minutes. Battery level or a bad door contact/relay would have the same effect, I would try locking it out and using the panic button x2 and see if that clears the lockout condition.

Mine is completely unresponsive in specific parking lots. Route 66 Casino for one. I thought it might be EMF from their security or giant electric signs.

Question when it is working properly and you use the key to unlock the drivers door does it automatically unlock the other door or doors too?

Reason I ask is in some systems one door look is primary and all the others are secondary slaved off the primary actuator.

If the actuator is going bad it may cause a jammed key cylinder. Do the other door key cylinders act the same way?

It did it again today. No it does not unlock the other door. When I do get one door unlocked with key, then everything electrical and manually works normal. May have found problem, today I was given the Superchips tuner that set this truck previously. But that still dont explain to me why doors wont unlock with key!
