If the block and/or the heads are not cracked and the machine work is done properly and it has not been run to death, I think it would be a good deal. If it does have problems you could part it out and not take a total loss.

So has the block been bored? They do make .030" SCJ pistons. If not I would check the clearance on the pistons to the block. Are the heads ported? Do they have hardened exhaust seats? You did not give alot of information. Has the crank been balanced for forged pistons? 2Y or 3Y crank? Cam, timing chain, pushrods, guidplates, lifters, new/used/brand? Does it come with an intake? Lots of things to check and consider on a used/rebuilt engine.

Are you going to try to run this on pump gas? The compression could be up to 12/1 with C8's and zero deck. Nitrous would not be good either with the raised ring lands. If you want to run pump gas you could swap the C8's for D3's and be good to go. So your intended use is also part of the "if it's a good deal"?

If you figure 3-400 dollars for the heads, and 3-400 for the cam lifters timing chain pushrods rings and rod bolts and bearings ect., it does not sound like do bad of the deal. The standard bore with SCJ pistons and moly rings would bother me. If I knew it was a low mileage block with round cylinders, and the pistons are clearanced properly, I would give it a shot. If you have to bore it .030" with new forged pistons and rings, and rebalance it, that will cost a chunk of change. Did a customer just not pick it up, and the machine shop just wants it gone?

It's not hard to run up a $1000 bill at a machine shop. As long as you don't plan to bottle feed it. I'd buy it and run the snot out of it. It looks like pretty good hp. per dollar to me.

No Doubt. If the heads are done up nice, you would likely drop at least 7-800 dollars to have them built yourself. I used the 3-400 dollar example, as I have seen alot of used ones sell around that price.

For just a thousand dollars that is an outstanding deal for everything you're getting and from a horsepower-to-dollars ratio.
