I like those engines, I wonder how close they match the 4.9 I6 we had in the states? I wonder if they ever installed that engine in anything here?

The DOHC straight six engines are an evolution of the 144-170-200-250ci engines. The first big change was the crossflow head in 1976 which went from cast iron to aluminum in 1981. The SOHC head came along with a change in bore and stroke in 1988. The DOHC head came along in 2002. Block improvements have happened along the way and is these days considered a very stout piece. The current turbo version makes 416hp. The post 1976 versions were never fitted to US vehicles.
The 240/300 straight sixes are a different generation of the Ford I6
