351w roller cam distributor?
Thought that I seen where a 460 duraspark could be used with a distributor gear change in a 351w hyd. Roller cam? Is that right? Any heads up on this?

The main distributors can be interchanged but, the gears can not.
The 429/460 gear is the same as the 351 Cleveland and "M" engines; the Windsor gear is smaller.

Thanks Randy. If I'm understanding right, the difference is the gear, so press the 460 gear off, and replace
With the 351w gear.
With the 351w gear.

You can use an '87 up 5.0 gear on the 351W or 429-460 dist, as well.

No sir says I ! 302, 5.0 and 289 have a smaller distributor shaft than the 351W 351C 429 and 460. 351m 400 to .However you can interchange the 351W with the 351C ,351m ,400 ,429 and 460 by changing the gears

Yes if you are using it in a 351W/5.8

Yes the "early" distributors have a .467 shaft that is correct. I was careful and said "'87 up". THOSE gears have the common .531 i.d.. I KNOW it can be done because I did it. A simple check of the Ford Racing catalog will confirm it.
Respectfully.

Re: 351w roller cam distributor?
The later 5.0 liter F.I. distributors I have seen have a 531" shaft stepped-down to .467" below the gear.
They are NOT Duraspark magnetic impulse distributors; they are Hall affect trigger meant for the F.I. "Thick film" ignitions.
ANY, 302 / 5.0 liter distributor gear is to small for any big block Ford use but, the same outer diameter as a 351W.

Re: 351w roller cam distributor?
.531 is still .531 be it a 429-460 or 351-400 or 351W or '87 up 5.0 with a major shaft diameter of .531. Yes I know the "pilot hole" in the 5.0 block is smaller @ .467 and the 5.0 shaft is stepped , but the gear is still .531. The roll pin height is different from the W location to the 351C-460 location so you drill a new hole . I have a Ford Motorsport 460 dist. with a 5.0 (.531 gear id) which makes it a 351 W roller distributor. 5 years of daily driving and zero problem on an F302 cam and 1.7 Cobra rockers. Check an older Ford Motorsport catalog for the details. ( 2002 and earlier). It's all there in black and white.

I should have stated it this way and I do realize I put 5.0 out of habit . A 302 duraspark distributor from 302 to 351w are not the same shaft diameter or gear . I understand my error in the way I Stated it in my earlier post.
