How old where you when you got your first gun.
My middle child just turned 7 I bought him a pump 20ga shot gun and was told he was to young.
I was 7 when I got my first gun and we live in the sticks I own some property with plenty of room from other people.
Just thought I would share with you all and see what age any of you got your first gun

Re: Your first gun
Single shot Steven's .410 6 years old.
Single shot Steven's 20 gauge 7 years old
Winchester 20 gauge Auto 10 years old.
Dad wouldn't let me have a 22 rifle until I was 14.
And if the barrel was pointed anywhere but at the ground loaded or unloaded, I got my azz handed to me and no gun for a long time.

Re: Your first gun
12, had a savage 12g single shot, no recoil pad... Put a 3" magnum in it and would take your shoulder smooth off. My little brother got a .22 semi auto rifle which i still have , we got them at the same time, he was 9 but not alllowed to shoot it wo me there.
I remember shooting my grandads .22 short siingle shot hexagon barrel and a lot younger age, prob 7 or so, but the shotgun was the first that was actually mine.... Well except fpr a bb gun which was prob around tbe 6-7 timeframe

6 years old got my 1st real gun 22 simi auto Glenfield from K Mart. My dad said it cost $39.99 had it up to last year some SOB stole it from my sister's house. They could have stole any other gun but that one and not pissed me off as bad as that one did.

Re: Your first gun
In my opinion, 7 is not to young. It does depend entirely upon the responsibility level of that person.
EDUCATION about guns of what they can do and how is paramount, though.
Preferably a "hands-on" education.
I was 5 and my brother 4 when my dad gave us our first rifle to share. It was an "over. under" 22 cal. and 410g, single shot, break open.
My son did not get his own but, he will tell you vividly about his first day at a rifle range the summer before he was to start school. The bruise on his shoulder from one shot of a 30-30 Winchester 94 squelched his curiosity. He had to use the sand bags to even hold the Dan Wesson 357 pistol he shot that day.
I never had to worry about him finding those guns and playing with them after that day. They were in their case, in the cabinet right in the open.
The first gun of his own was a Crosman multi-pump .177 cal pellet rifle for his next birthday

Re: Your first gun
I was 6 yrs old when I received my Winchester Cooey sgl shot .22 cal it came with a lengthy safety and cleaning chat, followed by about four hands on cleaning courses (it was gleaming) before we headed to the bush to walk for hours on end discussing all the things I was doing wrong, then it was time to load the first round to take a shot...wrong, I loaded it, and unloaded it 20 times before finally I received the green light to fire my new but seemingly old rifle.

8 years old, Ithaca 22, tube fed from the Butt stock. Still have it. My parents actually bought it for me after I had taken my allowance, birthday and Christmas money to the 5 and 10 and bought my own Daisy BB gun. They were afraid that a BB gun would teach me to be careless with a firearm.

Re: Your first gun
I had a break open pellet gun at 10. Had the same rules Blake had lol!!
I used dad's old Cooey 22 and a single shot Winchester 12ga a few times but then we sold the farm and moved to town. I just recently got a slick Henry 22 lever gun and bought the wife a Ruger 10-22. They are both real fun to shoot. Hard to get ammo still. I want to get an 870 next.
Our new Prime Minister is talking about clamping down on guns even more than they already are so I best get moving on it!!

Re: Your first gun
I was 6, Savage 410 single shot that I still have. My dad killed his first pheasant with it, I killed my first and my son shot his first turkey with the same gun. I would love to see my daughter shoot her first critter with it, then it might be time to retire it to the safe.

Re: Your first gun
.22 Rifle that belonged to my grand father and I don't recall how old I was but maybe like 9 or 10? However I was never allowed to shoot it unsupervised.
My Oldest received a .357 Magnum for Christmas when he was 16. My youngest is 10 and I don't feel that he is responsible enough to own a firearm yet.

Hopefully you can keep it. Californians hate guns that look that scary.

I guess I was about 7 also with the BB gun. Then a 12 gauge pump around 10 years old.
My daughter is 12 and I just bought her a 20 gauge. She likes to hunt when it means getting away from her mom.

Shot friends stuff around 10, shot cool stuff at Parris Island at 17. Bought my first pistol at 23? Lived in the suburbs, parents weren't into shooting. Got 2 grandkids, both girls, plan on getting a .22 rifle for them when they're 6 or so. Teach them the rules early, take the mystery away.

Seriously tho, I did finally buy my first gun @ age 50 ( for home protection)
