QuickTime 460 to Viper T56

Has anyone ever used this combo? I bought a QuickTime PART# RM-8051 from a member and according to the QuickTime website its for Viper t56 to 460 but the bell is not deep enough. Am I supposed to cut the end of the input shaft off to match the depth? Its about a half inch difference.

I spoke with someone at Quick time yesterday and he said to cut down the end of the input as needed.
