Gear Drive and Oil Temperature
I was curious if a gear drive has an effect on oil temperature.
Hotter or colder vs a timing chain.
I was not able to get "before" temperatures, but it isn't uncommon to be hitting 230 with the gear drive installed- and not really beating on it at all. Water temp rarely goes over 180 on the gauge.

Any time you compress a fluid it heats up.

I don't see any issue at all with 230 oil temp; exactly why do you have a concern ...? 225 is about perfect.
Re: Gear Drive and Oil Temperature
The indicated hot oil pressure is lower after the installation of a Kaase oil pump and Milodon gear drive.
Cold oil pressure with Amsoil 15w50 approaches 90 psi.
At operating temperature (water 180, oil about 230), oil pressure above 1500 rpm is 60 psi and it will go down to an approximate 14 psi in gear at idle at 800 rpm. The AutoMeter gauge starts at 10 psi.
Before the gear drive and different pump, the hot oil pressure was typically at 20 psi.
Old oil pump was a Milodon high pressure unit.
Pump was changed because of a pan swap to rear sump, which also holds more oil.
Engine had the gear drive installed a long time ago, decided to put it back in once I learned that it would work with a mechanical fuel pump.

Re: Gear Drive and Oil Temperature
Assuming it has been set up and installed correctly, there is nothing about a camshaft gear drive setup that will raise engine oil temperatures any discernable amount over an aftermarket roller timing chain setup.danski0224 wrote:I was curious if a gear drive has an effect on oil temperature.
