T&D rockers - head stud clearance Empty T&D rockers - head stud clearance

Hey all, working on the new engine and came to a cross road. We have TFS a460 3x casting heads, t&d rockers, arp head studs, I new there was going to be some clearancing to to. But it seems like more than it should be. The int stands clear all the studs but one on each head. Near #1 and #8 int . The stands are one piece int . If I shorten the head stud and nut, there will only be about half the nut left vertically. Not good!! Should I clearance the int stands instead? Then all the exh stands hit the head stud nuts in the relief already machined into the stands. But do not hit the top of the studs, plenty of clearance there. Need to remove .060-.080 of material radially on the relief. Has anyone ran into this before? Might have to call T#D and check with them. Thanks cory

I’ve had an issue on C heads, just machined clearance in the stand.

Thanks for the reply, called T&D and they said that TFS doesn't machine the head stud pockets deep enough. Had a feeling before I called it would be the other guys fault!!! LOL. Oh well, just have a few hrs with the die grinder. Thanks cory

Whenever you get mating parts from 2 or more aftermarket companies, you have to proceed with the mindset of "nothing fits".

I had to cut my studs off to clear ww stands. Bigger problems with push rod clearance than anything else.

Once again......the definition of "bolt on" is "you don't have to weld it.".......usually.

Well, things went pretty good, got the intake and exh stands clearanced. Only took 4 hrs, just took a little off at a time. Then measured for pushrods, checked 3 times and ended up with 9..070 int and 9.484 exh. Still have to check piston to valve. Forgot the modeling clay at home. Check that tomorrow.

You are lucky you don't have to also weld tie bars to the individual rocker stands - like T&D for A429 heads.
I also had to shorten the head studs a little (in a lathe) and used 12 point nuts.T&D rockers - head stud clearance Imgp6012
