Is a beefed C-4 a match for a 460+ CID Stroker or is the GM TH400 the best option Question

Anyone use the GM TH400 Question

How much does the car weigh?
How much money you got? Go ahead and add $600 on top of any Th400 pricing you get. (JW bell $325 Flex plate $300)
How fast you trying to go? (C6 might be a better option)

You are kinda comparing a c4/c6 and Th350/Th400 c4 and th400 are in two different classes. If it's a light car like a mustang you also have the P/G as an option.

My nephew has a 66 galaxie very heavy 3600 no driver smoked a pg he talked to almost
everyone in the race tranny biz and all told him to run a 400 with he is in about 700 runs
he broke one thing in it.

I think after talking a few guys on this site I will most likely use a E4OD over the GM TH400.

The GM TH400 tranny is nothin' ta sneeze at but none the less it still has a GM part number. Suspect

Nothing wrong with a TH400 IMO, The trans doesn't care what motors in front of it or what car its in.

I've been running PG's in my race car for the last 5 years and have had no issues.

the Only Problem when you use a T400 is some after making a run you shift it into N it will lay over the sprag.....

How about Ford Racings new C-2 two speed transmission as used in the factory Cobra Jet race cars! Cool Joel's on Joy in Detroit builds the trannys for Ford Racing. They are pricey, but they are supposed to be capable of use with up to 1800 hp (???????) Shocked! And you won't have to swallow your pride by running a GM trans! There was a picture of it in the May 2010 Race Pages, It seems to look alot like a Powerglide to me . You don't think Ford would put a Powerglide in their top line Cobra Jet race car do you? I guess the good side for the guys running Poweglides already, is that if asked they can now say they don't run a Glide they have a Ford C-2!!!

Fox it you have to have a 3 speed just rollerize a c-6 and go it will be way stronger than a t400 and get a Frank Merkl brake and go....

Its not a Powerglide its a Ford Racing C-2! Wink Like I said, you don't have to run a Glide you can run a Ford C-2. It must be just a coincidence that it looks like a Glide. The guy that built my C-6 is the one that's supplying the trannys to Ford Racing. Here is the link from yellowbullet:

The C-2 isn't a Cruis-o-matic, there was a picture in the May NMRA Race Pages that shows the transmission. I talked to Joel the builder and he says it is a redesigned version of the powerglide. Ford didn't want to put a Glide behind the supercharged Super Cobra Jet Mustangs and testing with a C-4 showed inconsistent performance so they contracted with Joel to design the C-2 for them so that it would be both durable and consistently fast. It has its own unique, case-input shaft-torque converter and even dipstick. The internals are basically aftermarket Glide with a 1.80 gearset. Joel says the Super Cobra Jet Mustangs have a supercharged 5.4 putting out 1000 hp and runs consistent 8.80's at 156. If your interested you can contact Joel or Sean at Joel's on Joy @313-581-6266 for more info.

Ford did make a c2 they weren't very strong from what I know of don't know anyone that has run one .Ihave saw some of them over the years,used to have one .Looks lot like a glide. Smile

Also, truth be known. Ford gave/sold or whatever, the Powerglide to GM back in the early-mid 50's. GM made a few mods to call it their own, and there you have it. Appearantly, they're reasoning was to replace it with the Cruisomatic. Shocked Shocked EPIC FAIL! This came from my Grandfather years ago. And I dare say he knew more about Ford stuff than "anybody." Maybe even the "Ford" guys themselves. So, this is the same story I tell the GM boys when they ask me why I put a GM tranny in my Ford. It's actually kind of funny, 'cause they don't even argue, they just look at me with that just slapped in the face look, and walk away. Just think, if Ford (the guys that may still know about it) had known what a success it would turn out to be, maybe they'd have kept it around. Wink
