Any intrest in a fiberglass 66 Mustang Fastback body
Randy Moore and I are going to make a fiberglass 66 fastback for the Chrome moly chassis I just procured. (Thanks J.S.)
Just curious if anybody else would be interested in one. This wont be a overnight deal, we still have to make the molds and get my 66 street car slick enough to make the molds off of.
It's a fairly good sized investment to get the molds built, just testing the water to see if we could sell a couple of bodies to get the ball rolling.
Not sure on the price yet, but the first couple of bodies will be a good bit cheaper than you can buy them from the body companys for helping us get started.
Also can be done in Carbon Fiber,
PM me and I will give you an approximate price.
Thanks..............

Use plenty of mold release gel/wax, it might help a bunch if you can't get the body/plug super slick before pulling a mold.IDT-572 wrote:..........and get my 66 street car slick enough to make the molds off of.
In one shop I rented the guy in the next stall was building his own helicopter body & frame from scratch. He carved the huge body plug from pink foam block and had a hard time getting the right & left sides looking symmetrical & smooth. He got about half way through fighting the foam trying to slick it up & said fuuk it and just piled on tons of the release gel & threw the 'glass at it hoping for the best. The release gel did an amazing job considering how rough the plug was. There was only a few spots where the 'glass hung onto the plug & had to be forced loose.
Detail prep before/after making the mold will chew up a lot of time. I saw a 'glass front end once where you could see imprints of masking tape in the finished part. The maker probably used the tape to bridge air gaps when pulling molds off the original front end & forgot to fix/sand out the tape imprint from the mold before making the final part.

Sad to say no............. Never had any interest in form anybody.
If we could just sale one to help recoup the cost it would help.

Just saw this thread for the first time.
I bet one of those bodies would fit like a glove on the chassis I built for my Maverick.

Blake. Anchor a chunk of aluminum or steel with a 3/8ths pipe thread. After drilling a 1/2inch hole in the center of the mold on the back of the mold.Plug the hole with clay.install a quick connect air fitting to it. Lay up your part. When shes ready to come out, put some air to fitting and watch pop for sure!! Be carefull because there is alot of energy/backpressure, when released, since the air comming from inside. I guarantee it will come out.

Re: Any intrest in a fiberglass 66 Mustang Fastback body
Like Blake said we never went on with project . He still has the steel body and just with Blake and myself we were wanting different things . I was looking at an extended front cap , maybe even narrowing the body , and big wheel openings and Blake is looking more for a street look. Either way it will take a considerable amount of prep on Blake's 65 body before a mold is made . I would guess we could sell one in the 3-3500 range . With that said I am not getting into time to build etc because nothing has been done so far.

There is a 66 Fastback body out there now IIRC. Fiberglass parts seem like an industry where you need to make everything to survive. Pretty hard with a one off product unless you are making Camaro/Mustang hoods or something very popular.
