Thanks guys!!!!

Yeah I love the stance too, but I'm thinking I may need more lift after I get my bumpers made and add a winch....Plus I am still going to be putting a 460 in it too. Although the 408m I put in it last weekend does run really hard! Guess I will know more after I get my bumpers done for it. And I do plan on wheelin it but nothing to hardcore. I am more of a trail/mud hole kind of guy lol.

Looks really good, if more clearance is needed, just do a little trimming and add some fender flares. I really am not a fan of big lifts and off roading. Heck I'm running my 38's with no lift at all on my mud truck, just did some serious trimming. Too bad about that 429, it would have been a great engine. If you could get it for a decent price, it might be worth rebuilding. Cool

Thanks! I already did trim the front fenders a little. The most trimming I plan on doing. Just like to keep the stock look to it. I'm not a fan of flares at all. I wouldn't put them on anything, one they get busted up in the trails and two I just don't think they look good on anything. If I do go any taller it will only be as much as needed and nothing more. I don't plan on getting crazy with it. Once I get the bumpers built and take it out to the trails I will know if I need more lift. But with a winch and a nice tubular bumper I may need another inch or so of left,as long as my tires don't rub.

Yeah the 429 deal really bum me out too. It had a "bolt" flopping around in the bottom end that I think caused the damage. It would be a good builder for sure but the guy still wants full price for it beeing a 69 429...I cant see spending $600 for just a builder when I only paid $150 for my 71 460 thats beeing built for my Mustang. I will hold out and see what I can find. There is a running 74 460 and trany for a $150 even comes with a motor stand lol for sale an hour or so from me...

Well it's been a little while since my last up date so... I picked up another 71 460 motor! I am going to start the rebuild on it soon. Got a couple question for you guys about the motor build. Not to sure how to go about this one. I really don't need all out power from this motor. The Bronco gets driven pretty much daily so I need to keep it afordable to drive Very Happy And reliable as can be. I was thinking maybe 400hp or and as much torque as I can. What do you all think I should do here??

Thanks!

Even in fairly stock form these engines will produce a LOT of tq. A good slightly better than stock rebuild with 9:1 C/R, a good bowl cleanup in the heads, decent inuction, and free flowing exhaust is going to be hard to beat for cost and power. The Comp Extreme 4X4 cams are going to be a pretty good match. Cool

Cool. Sounds pretty much like I was thinking. I already have a RPM air-gap intake, think this would be too much? Just have the stock rods reworked with ARP bolts? Or should I buy some aftermarket rods? What would be a good piston to use? And I was thinking about a roller cam and roller rockers too? Since my Mustang build has went a different route the Bronco is my main focus now. I'm still thinking about a stroker motor, but I want to be able to drive it when ever and where I want. Smile

Probably not necessary to go to a roller cam, but you can get some nice street roller grinds if that is what you want to do. Lem did 501" engine a while back that was a street type build and it was very potent. Cool https://www.429-460.com/t2925-502-f350-engine

I went and pick up a 460 yesterday is/was a running motor. It is a D1VE block D3VE heads and C9AE rotating assembly. I started to take it apart to put new gaskets in it and well I found a little some some thing when I pulled the drivers side head. I looks like maybe some got in there and beat the piston some. Well I got ahold of the guy I got it from and sent him pics of it. He ended up giving my money back and let me keep the motor and felt really really bad about it. So I just got done tearing the rest apart and it all lokks great no damage any where and no cylinder damage either. What do yous think about just putting a different piston in it,hone it and rering it??? That way I can have me a running BB for the Bronco and take some time to "build" me another motor.
Heres a pic of the piston

I got a phone call last night from a guy wanting to sell a 460 (I put a wanted add on Craigslist). It seems like I can't get away from these D1VE blocks!!This is the 4th one I got now. He said it was running when they pulled it out, like I haven't heard that befor Laughing So I asked the big question, how much??? And to my surprise he said 50 bucks and he will drop it off! How could I say no to that.
Heres a pic of the way I got it, it's not locked up but will still be comming apart...

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=505704&l=15d5fb75e1&id=100000646628308 hey if you are on a budget, or want awesome clearance here is a picture of the underside of my truck with 460/c-6/203-205 doubler with triple sticks. i used plates i made for engine mounts that bolt right to the factory m motor mount. then i used 2 wheel drive headers, with a little modification to the frame towers. works great never a header leak or exhaust hit yet. anyway just an idea. oh yea, and my truck is a 78 shortbox. thanks...

Thanks but I also make my own motor mounts and have for many years. Also I plan on fender well exit headers with the swap. I am also thinking about using a aftermarket power steering pump like my dirt track buddys use. I don't mind changing my hoses and fittings around to make it work. I know it should work way better then a stock pump and even better then a saginaw pump...
