It has .030 trw 2443 pistons with stock worked rods and crank. Dove heads with scj valves and a little port work. The cam is a mild solid roller .631 lift cant remember the duration. Vic 4500 intake with a 1050 dommy on it. With a c6 tranny and a ati 3500 converter with a 9in rear with a 3.70 gear. This is all in a 85 mustang and weighs 3400 with me in it. It made 442hp and 422tq to the wheels. I ran it up to 6500rpm and the hp was still climbing. So I think it has more in it. I have only made 10 passes in it and was went a best of 11.44 at 121.

We are going with a 4.22 gear this year with a 28" slick. I want a 10 sec slip bad.

Not much of a diet this year. I have another 85 that has a 10 point cage and we removed the crash bars in the door and are thinking about lexan door windows. My motor will be going in it next winter. The converter is loosening up a little. It started at 18-2000rpm and now I can footbrake it to 3k.

Well I changed from power brakes with no vaccum hooked to the booster to manual brakes and thats when I seen the increase in stall. Jon I have put bigger fuel line on it (i was running 3/8 before). Thinking about the alky and will need to borrow that carb.

Yes the dyno showed we was lean with the 1050 and the 3/8 line. The car had a sb in it before and I was in a hurry and wanted to run the bigblock. So after the dyno we thought that the motor was not pulling enough air through thus is running lean. So we put a 4150 vic intake and a 850dp and that was a mistake. The car was .4-.5 slower and lost 7mph. So we are putting the 4500 vic intake and dommy back on it with bigger fuel line and 4.22 gear with a 28" slick. Trying to get in the 10s.

Take the car to a Chassis Dyno and do some tuning, its worth the time and money.

Make sure you have someone with you who know how to tune or their is some one at the shop thats knowlagable with Holley Carbs.

How long is it gonna take before a stock rod lets go at that RPM with those super heavy pistons?

The engine is obviously making a lot of power, and that's good, but turning it higher would make me very nervous.

According to a guy on here who I trust with my motor its the cyl pressure that causes them to break vs rpm. He has has several motors like mine with the same piston and rod and spun it 7k no problems for seasons. It let go when he put the HERO juice to it.

Interesting,I have heard exactly the opposite. That the rods tend to pull apart in the middle of the beam. Seen plenty of pics of that as well.

Like I said it only has 10-12 passes on the motor. The rods have been worked a little. The stress riser is gone and they have been shot peened. But this is my first 460 and me and my dad put it together. I love the fact it makes the power it does with stock heads.

Yeah it's definitely running good.

MY bro and I put together a .030 over 460 with similarly worked D0VE's, and also worked factory rods. It's about 10:1 on the compression with a hyd flat tappet cam and a Stealth intake. It runs really good for what it is......there is definitely some power hiding in that old Ford iron.
But I did tell my bro to keep it under 6000 RPM. Just in case....

If the motor holds up this year next winter it has to come out to go in the other car. At that time I will put the crower rods we have for it. Then I should be good to go and may spray it a little.
