9" pinion help Empty 9" pinion help

Post  64 fairlane February 17th 2011, 11:17 am

Hey guys I was hoping someone here could help me out with a gear change on 9"
Here's the question I purchased a set of 4.11 and plan to install them I had 4.56. I also purchased instalation kit,on the pinion does the bearing get pressed on without any shimms between the bearing and the pinion gear. The pinion for the 4.56 has shimms between bearing and pinion gear. Thanks in advance!

In most cases there should not be any shims behind the bearing closest to the pinion gear. The exception being if you are using a racing style pinion support that is designed to handle both the 35 and 28 spline pinions. In that case there will be an adapter collar and a washer (roughly .100 thick).

i think the 9" uses shims that go between the support and case, like where the bolts go through them.i know i've used them on stock deals before.
