Fuel cell question

Post  Mike R on August 16th 2011, 7:59 pm

My project car is a wagon and I'm wondering about mounting my fuel cell. Can it be mounted in the open like the picture or do es it have to be enclosed?

I have no idea what the rule books say , but I would put a firewall between that and the passenger compartment for safety reasons.

Mike, You need either a firewall or a cover. Since you have a wagon I'd make a cover for it. You'll need to cover that battery too.

Got any more pics of the car?

That's not my car, just a picture of a very fast local car. He was racing it like that, that's why I was wondering if it was okay the way it is in the photo. If I mount my tank where the spare tire was and cover it with a door will I be okay?

The fuel cell and the drivers comp. need too be seperated.

batter in an approved box and the cell covered/trap door deal will work. The bottom of the cell and sump need covered on the bottom as well.

I just ordered a rule book, hope that will answer any questions. It's tough, this is my first serious car build and no body has a wagon I can look at. As I get further into this project I'm sure I'm going to have lots of questions, glad you guys are here to help.

It needs either a firewall or an enclosure to separate the fuel cell/components from the driver.

Not trying to nitpick, but you really need an X-brace between the rear kicker bars if you have any power at all. Wouldn't hurt to tie it in to the shock crossmember.
