Screwed up my hand today

Post  Yoeman on October 24th 2011, 5:20 pm

Had my big DeWalt drill kick back on me today, and it blasted my right hand pretty good. Now the back of my hand is all fat around the whole middle finger, and hurts like hell, anyone else done this?
Don't want to go to the Doc if I can help it, figured someone here has prolly done the same thing, any advice is welcome, right now it looks like beer and ice, or ice beer and ice! Mad

An ex helper I had was using my snap on cordless drill to put 6.4 cab bolts in, he was doing it one handed and before I could say stop the bolt got tight and the drill wrapped around and the battery end caught him in the nose...........broke his nose lol. He did go to the emergency room............dunno what to tell you, I've banged up myself pretty good and never gone, never had any issues.

They move, it's really feeling like I may have cracked a bone right below the middle finger. May be a bruise, think I'll deal with it for now. I wasn't being smart about what I was doing, and paid for it, I guess. I need to start telling certain people to F$#@ off and leave me alone when I'm building stuff, wasn't using the best tools for what I was making. Rolling Eyes

If it ain't broke...it is hard to go wrong with the I.C.E treatment.
I - keep it iced with ice packs
C - compression - wrap it with an ace bandage
E - elevate the critter above your heart
You will need to get creative to do this all at the same time, but it seems to work on injuries that are bruised or swell.
Disclaimer......I am not a real doctor, but i stayed at a Holiday Inn one time, a while back. Sleep
Back in the 1970s , I recall getting a "Doctor of Motors" certificate from a Perfect Circle rings seminar. Maybe that will be good enough. Suspect
Hope it helps...

I have had several broken fingers over the years and always been able to move them. Not like normal due to swelling but they did bend in the normal direction.
My suggestion is to follow Dr Keiths instructions and if not showing improvement in 48hrs go get some xrays.

I have one of those drills and will never use a 2" holesaw in sheetmetal with it again Evil or Very Mad

Don't quit your job!!! He can't fire you for injuring yourself on the job, he should be grateful that you didn't file a Workers Comp claim. Point this out to him and if he still has an attitude make him fire you, then you can collect unemployment and file a comp claim and have your hand looked at.
