ARP stud life? Empty ARP stud life?

Post  Ranch71460 November 8th 2011, 9:17 am

I bought my original 466 6 yrs ago with head and main studs installed. The PO had them for about 8 years prior to that.
What would be the life expectancy? Motor has been about 12:1 compression for all it's life and has seen 6800 to 7000 rpm.

3 times since I've had it, and i'm guessing 6 times in it's previous life.
The block has been changed out at least 3 times.

The ones in the Project Cheap Skate are from my 1st 460 build in about 1990-1991 and the have been on several motors one of which was 14:1. So IMO inless you have issues with head Gaskets and Caps moving around they are fine to keep using. 12:1 really is in't that hard on stuff as long as you not experiancing detonation or bad tunes. (Disco qualifies as "Bad Tunes" Laughing )

Look at how long factory bolts last..........

The metal in the studs is not gonna wear out if the stud is not torqued past its yield point. What will happen eventually is the the threads will wear out and that is determined not by age but by how many time the nuts have been used on that stud in a torqued and loosened situation; it should be pretty visual.
