New SCJ block.... Empty New SCJ block....

Post  8liter October 10th 2009, 9:52 pm

I talked to one of the reps at the FMS trailer during NMRA and asked about the 460 block situation. He said there was about 6 mo. worth of A460's left and then they are going to introduce the new SCJ block. I asked what the difference was, and he mentioned less weight and o-ringed freeze plugs. Anyone heard any other gossip?

I saw an article in the race pages they gave us at the gate. Pretty good info.

Both good improvements in my opinion. Just wish it wasn't taking so long, but given todays economy, I do understand.

So does that mean there will be no more A460 block? I always assumed it was an in-between block like the boss units they have now.

The SCJ block will be an improved A460 block as I understand it. It will actually be able to be bored to 4.6250" versus the A460 recommended 4.600" bore on the present stock. Lighter as well without sacrificing strength, 4 bolt mains and priority oiling just like the A460. All in all a nice piece when it happens. Maybe Lem will chime in, I'm sure he has more information than I.

O rings plugs , most likely will be the same as the cup block . machined threads , so no stress from pipe plug

Pipe thread is very handy if you want to put water into the block through a core plug hole since the parts can be obtained via the lumber yard.
