I would assume I don't need a roof bar since it cert'd to 8.50 just fine

Where would the roof bar have to go if I were to add one?

On some smaller bodied stock suspension, mini-tub, or back half cars that don't have a diagonal roof bar or FC cage (8.50 & slower cert) to mount the 'chute lever too, if you happen to sit close enough to the top windshield bar you can sometimes use that to mount the release lever too.

But that's usually not an option on a lot of full chassis cars since you usually sit farther back in them.

no rule for that as far as I know, its for mounting a lever, not part of the structure or SFI requirement.

On a 8.50 & slower cert you can use whatever OD tube you want for a diagonal roof bar since it's not required to have one untill you get into the faster SFI certs.

I used a scrap chunk of 1/2" aluminum plate, made it into a billet angle clamp cable mount. I mounted the pivot to an old fan mount tube on the cage windshield bar. The drill bit was Pre bolt...
Works nice...
