Remove the advance components including the springs, weights and the advance stop bushing from the advance assembly.
2. Remove the roll-pin from the shaft retaining sleeve and slide the shaft up.
3. Rotate the shaft 180° and insert the advance stop bushing pin into the small hole on the advance plate (Figure 7).
4. Install the locknut and washer to the advance stop bushing pin. This locks the advance in place.
5. Install the retaining sleeve and its roll-pin.

Do the gear have to come off?
Where is the lock nut and washer located?

Gear doesn't need to come off. When you take the pin out the collar on the bottom of the aluminum part of the distributor the whole shaft will slide up until the gear touches the collar.

The lock nut is under the advance mechanism. These are boomerang shaped sliding weights under the rotor.

Sound good! I can handle this fix. Maybe it want be to hard on my starter till i can get a retard set up of some sort. Im firing off with a 6al and an little efi coil. it seems kinda hard to fire witch ofcourse i havent locked out to set timing at 30 or 32 and i havent set the idle mixture screws yet. I dont have my tach back from autometer yet. Hopefully tuesday. Cant read my rpm. Anyway, about what should it read at idle?
Thanks

locking out the advance isn't going to make starting any easier. good chance the opposite will happen

Never really understood locked out timing unless you have a digital ignition to control timing curve or efi forward do the same.
