got to swap out the 8" last week to see if i could make something happen.this is the best part,i put a 10" precision industries i had made for my old iron 466 about 12 yrs ago.first launch on the transbrake@3200 went sky hi,had to lift{no wheelie bars}went back to the old fashond way with footbrake and could'nt get but 22-2500 on the brakes but still pulled some good air and 1.26 60',5.80/118.last time with the 8"on the t/b @any rpm launch best 60"was 1.34,5.91@116.what do you make of all that?

when I built my new engine I talked to several converter guy's and they suggested going to a 9" or 10" they said that an 8" would not hold up to the Massive torque these engines build. so I went with a 9" for now... nice looking car....

i got the idea when i had the 8" built they didnt think much of c4's.the builder said c4's were made for 100hp six bangers.i told them all my info, even said i'd spray it a 400 shot, and did spray 200.after that i slowed 2-3 tenths.changed cams and picked back up to 5.90,now this little more with converter change.i felt like it should have held up better cuz it was'nt a cheap deal, not gona say who but some of you are running them. thanks

I thought about a c-4 or c-6 but I went Glide cuz these monster build so much torque and I like the Idea one click and let the Big torque eat.... I am using a UCC converter now I had a chance converter in it with my last engine but Marty said do not use it in this combo it will not last....I needed at least a 9 or 10 to utilize the big torque..

Post  cool40 October 27th 2009, 1:33 am

a glide may be my next swap.i'm thinken of a 4.30 gear first just cuz i have one to try.the 4.86 puts me a little far in hi gear,6900-7000.

what does your car weigh? I have 4.56 in mine now but I am thinking aout 4.30's on my old engine it didn'y make a difference which gear I had in the car the torque made up for it...mine has 17x33 slicks.... I think you are heading in the right direction. I think you will fall in love with the glide man it makes a big difference, Richter69 use to run a c-4 and kept having hell with it, I talked him into a glide now you couldn't make him change if you offered to buy him a c-4 or 6..... if you do go glide go 1.76 gear or I have 1.64 in mine. These mosters make so much torque it won't know the difference. Mine launches wheels up witha glide in it always has, it makes a difference it calmed the launch down going from 3 speed to a glide......You do not need the 2.48 low gear to get these cars going.....

the car weighs 26-2700lbs w/o driver.that was witha iron headed bbf&c6. i'm thinken i'll go with a glide this winter, wish i could find a good used one.i saw a nice one on r/j in georgia.tci i think with reid case.blake offered to loan me his but i told him i'd break it[LOL].i was shifting at 7500 with the other cam but the lower rpm power just sucked so i put the old ultradyne in it.it's got a lot more torque now so the glide will be a good thing.i'll twist it as high as it needs to,it's got good chit in it.

I went from a C4 and 8" to a glide with 1.76 gear and a 9" converter. Resulted in improved ET and MPH in the 1/8 and 1/4

Best with c4 5.94/9.43 with glide 5.74/9.08, only other change was went from straight alky to M5, but the car did go 5.80 on plain alky back in the good good air.

Powerglide is the way to go, even more so on a light car. Don't skinp on converter though, the 2 speed will not be very forgiving if the converter is off a bit.
