How much N2O on a stock block? Empty How much N2O on a stock block?

Post  Ryan C October 31st 2009, 9:11 pm

How much nitrous has anybody sprayed on a stock block with a plate system? I have a 545 w/ blue thunder heads, victor intake, 1150 dominator, all forged internals, and a main gurdle with a 13:1 comp ratio. I'm trying to get an idea of how much i can spray without catistrophic failure? I'm only spraying it in the 1/8th.

The car went 9.98 @ 133 at 3150 1.38 60' and a 6.28 @ 109 and a 1.35 60' on 275 drag radials with a super comp C4 and 3.73 gears and a very loose converter. converter has been tightend but i havent made any passes yet.

Thanks
Ryan

I forgot to mention that the times I posted are all on motor. I have not sprayed it yet. I'm going to start with 150 hp shot on a hand button and work my way up. I would be happy if I can spray 250 with a proggressive system without any major problems.

I'm running a 200 shot through a plate on a stock block.

545 CI, 11.9:1. 4160 lbs car goes 10.80's on motor and has gone a best of 9.95 @ 135.5 on a 200 shot.

All I did to prep for the spray was to run Hellfire rings with loose gaps. I'm running a stock deck with Fel-Pro 1018 gaskets, no block fill, and no o-rings....no head studs either.....main studs, yes....

I don't know how our HP levels compare, but I have the feeling that I could spray more and the block would not be the limiting factor.

Good luck, and you've got a great looking car man.

I'm putting together a 466 with SRP forged flat tops, SCAT h-baeams, stock crank, d0ve heads decked .030, ARP studs, Felpro 1018 gasket all on a D1 block that has been zero decked. My builder said I was good to 250, but make sure the tune was good before I went that big. We'll see how it all goes.

. the zero deck on that motor will not take detonation good at all try to read as much as you can on tuneups prior to hitting it and i would start with 100hp first and work up slowly. N20 is just like Crack once you get started you cant stop lol!

That was my plan. I have a new Cheater kit that I'm putting the lowest setting in then work my way up. I need to get some the VA fellas to come out to the mud pit and help me get it tuned right!

all over, usually at vmp, smiley rock, fredericksburg, northern neck atv, and if they open again, back up at Mountainview in Stafford. I've got the truck torn down getting it ready for the winter, but next spring I'll be teating and tuning with the new spray setup. Very Happy

well on my old 521 stock block 250 on a nx sys and then went to a nano sys and put it on a 325 diet it did fine but when i went to 375 on the nano sys it went to hell cracked cyc wall and fill it full of water . and as you know thats bad! broke the crank in 5 pieces bent 2 rods and broke the main #3 all the way down to the cam bushings . it was not filled. the nitrous did not hurt the pistons the block just gave out plus it had a blowed head gasket and i did not know it untill it was too late
but thats my story
i would say 200- 225 would be ok if every thing is set up right

i got smart and got an a-460 block
i will not spray that much gas on a stock again
the man from scat that i called and talk to said that in the 27 years that he had been with scat he had never saw a crank broke as bad as mine . i sent him a pic . and he had no anserw why it broke like that i wish i still had a pic of and i would post it. it broke 3 weights off the crank and did not even hurt the piston , and did not brake a rod but it did bend the # 8 rod untill it looked like a 7
i have the vid of when it broke no smoke or any thing just cut off with 80 psi of oil press. just my luck!

I got my converter back from ptc and raced last wekend at MIR and the first pass on motor I ran a 9.83 @137 w/ 1.39 60ft wheel hopped bad! I tried to spray 150, the motor liked it but the clutches in my trans didn't! I left on motor (1.35 60ft) then sprayed in 2nd gear. So much for my super comp c4 from PA. lol Looks like I'm putting a powerglide and a progressive controller in over the winter! BTW The plugs looked really good so once I get everything back together andthe car runs good on 150, I'm going to slowly step it up.... maybe 175 then 200 And see how everything looks.

do you think your PA super comp trans just might be worn out?.....that trans has the ability to go much and has quicker than 9.80's.....not a slam or dig....just curious.....been reading alot this style of trans and it supposibly can handle alot of power. My friends car goes 8.80 @ 153 N/A with that trans without any troubles

I just purchased 1 myself for my 472 and I'm looking forward to using it

from what I understand the PG is very good to be consistant for bracket racing and to "tame down" real big HP applications that dont need a low 1st gear......once again just what I'm reading or understanding

why does the glide make the car faster? didn't you also go to alky also? was this at the same time?

I can see the consistacy part, but I still see some pretty fast cars running C-4's

Went 9.40's with the c4 on alky, go 9.0's with the glide and alky. I am running the M5 which is worth a little or the plain hooch, but all in all the car is faster.

Glide robs less power, these big motors do not like that low 1st gear.

My best 60 with the c4 was 1.36, goes 1.29-1.30 with the 2 speed.

There are a bunch of others here with similar combos that picked up as well.

My C4 has only about 20 passes on it and about 8 of them are only 1/8 mile. I have talked to alot of people who said that they have gone faster just by changing from a c4/c6 to a glide. I believe since I am going to be spraying the car the drivability will be much simpler also. With the C4 I am only in 1st gear for the 60ft mark. Its rediculous!

Wow, thats good to know! My 60ft times are 1.35 when the car hooks. I would guess with a glide I could possibly leave on a little more nitrous than I could with the C4.

Ive been 9.03@153.xx 1.27 60ft(on the back tires) 5.71@124.xx in the 1/8th. with a D9 block( 2 bolt, no fill), heavily ported D0VES, stock crank, truck rods, cast pistons, hellfire rings, King bearings, Comp solid flat tappet cam, Victor intake, Pro Systems 1170, Big Shot Plate 110n/105f, C4, 32x14s tire, 3065#, 4 link. I figure that to be around 860-870 RWHP. I would never advise anyone to do this, but spray away if your so inclined, and watch your tuneup like a hawk becuase the slightest detonation is going to put the track crew to work.
